IF BALI IS DAMAGED, WE WILL BLAME THE PRESENT GENERATION
Posted by webmaster under: Articles .
Denpasar - Imagine the small island of Bali shrinking further because its coasts are damaged, experiencing drought because the forests have been cut, and no rice is harvested. Would Bali be still fit to live?
These questions were insinuated by Yayuk (18), a first semester student at the Faculty of Economics, Udayana University, Bali. She read out a statement during a press conference held by the Bali Collaboration for Climate Change in Denpasar, on Monday March 17, 2008. As a young person who will inherit Bali, it was logical for her to ask these questions to the parents who currently live comfortably by consuming natural resources and energy on this small island.
“One day I read the papers, saying in 2030 the Sanur and Kuta areas would be flooded due to climate change. In that year, perhaps I would be married with a child. But would we be able to leave comfortably under the shadows of climate change, due to the mistakes of our parents?” she asked.
She further said, today the adults work hard to collect assets for their children in future. Perhaps the asset would last for as long as 7 generations to come. But, the impacts of those activities are destroying the move valuable asset, that is natural resources, polluting the air, increasing the earth temperature. Perhaps in future we would be cursing our ancestors.
Yayuk appealed, ” We do not need many hectares of land which cannot be cultivated, blocks of gold but no food to eat. We (in future) need sufficient water, clean air to breathe”
A similar appeal was made by Dayu (16), a high school student in Denpasar. She appealed for concrete actions to save Bali from the impacts of climate change, one of which is by reducing consumption on the World Silent Day, March 21, 2008. The world silent day is a campaign conducted by the Collaboration of NGOs and community figures in Bali to contribute to individual reduction of green house gases.
“As a first step, I will disseminate the World Silent Day campaign to my friends in school. Although I may be only person, but this will have significant impact for nature. Especially if all people in this room also disseminate the campaign, appealing people to switch off electronic appliances for four hours on March 21″ Dayu said.
Meanwhile the Regionals office of Environmental Impact Assessment also lend support to th campaign. The press conference was also attended by the representative of Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) and the Bali Hotel Association (BHA) in Bali, both of which said they support the World Silent Day campaign that was launched during the UN Climate Change conference, December 2007 at Nusa Dua, Bali.

Dear Alls,
We understand that to save Bali forever is very simple. Try to implement 3R in using things. Reduce, Reuse and Recycling.
So simple , and easy.
Let do it, and be consistent.
